Where Mansions Are Bright and Fair

All Saints welcomed a large, diverse audience to our Monday night concert featuring the music of Florence Price and music by women composers. Dani DeMeo was joined in the first suite by Brandon Warren, Robin Smithberger, Abby Channer and Kathy Dennis to sing spirituals and African pieces that demonstrated the foundation for Price's compositional style, rich in romantic harmonies and African rhythms. The second suite highlighted the music of women composers who wrote in the classical style. Dani's showed her vocal prowess, with beautiful, lyrical singing of the Poldowski "Exquisite Hour," and ended with lots of fireworks in the Viardot trip to the bullfight, titled "The Girls of Cadix." The last suite of Florence Price works for solo piano and voice highlighted the featured composer of the evening and brought the audience full circle. Price's music was rich and full of original spirituals, a "Levee Dance," and the final invocation from the concert title "Where Mansions are Bright and Fair."
